Aizawl: In a significant anti-drug operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police jointly seized heroin worth ₹8.43 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district. According to official sources, the contraband was confiscated from an abandoned car in Ngur village, located in Champhai, which borders Myanmar and is a major route for drug smuggling.
The operation, which took place on Thursday night, was based on a tip-off received by the authorities. Despite the successful seizure, no arrests have been made yet. The heroin was reportedly smuggled from Myanmar and was intended for distribution to other states in India.
Champhai district, with its porous border shared with Myanmar, often serves as a conduit for various illicit activities, including drug trafficking. The authorities continue to monitor and intercept such illegal consignments to curb the smuggling operations in the region.
