Parliament Chaos Continues as 49 More Opposition Members Suspended in lok sabha

In a further escalation of the ongoing parliamentary turmoil, 49 opposition members, including prominent leaders such as Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Karti Chidambaram, Supriya Sule, Dimple Yadav, and Farooq Abdullah, were suspended from Lok Sabha for the remainder of the winter session. This move follows continuous disruptions and adjournments in the House as opposition members raised slogans and displayed placards over their demands.

The suspended members face charges of ‘serious misconduct,’ and this brings the total number of opposition MPs suspended during the winter session to 141. The opposition has been demanding statements from the Prime Minister and the home minister and a discussion on the breach of Parliament security last week.

Reacting to the mass suspensions, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the government, stating that the suspensions aim to push through “draconian bills” without meaningful debate, while those responsible for the breach go unpunished. Ramesh referred to the situation as “Namocracy in all its tyranny” in a social media post.

The government is keen on passing new criminal code bills during this session, and it is anticipated that the passage may occur on Tuesday or Wednesday. TMC leader Mahua Moitra took a swipe at the Modi government, humorously suggesting that the next Adani Annual Shareholders meeting would be held in the Lok Sabha Chamber.

AAP Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that those speaking the truth and asking questions have been unfairly suspended, highlighting the perceived deterioration in parliamentary proceedings. The public is closely observing the political developments in the Parliament, which has become a contentious arena in recent days.
