The CBI has opened a new case against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, the son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, for allegedly improving the visas of 250 Chinese people after obtaining illegal Rs 50 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.
The CBI on Tuesday morning launched a search operation in nine locations in several cities across the country, including Karti Chidambaram’s residences in Chennai and Delhi, they said. Karnataka, Punjab and Odisha, add.
The CBI team also visited the residence of Karti Chidambaram and senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram at Lodhi Estate here, officials said. in a tweet without specifying. In a new high-profile case in the ongoing investigation, the CBI alleges that Karti Chidambaram received a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to obtain visas for 250 Chinese nationals during the UPA regime’s power project, officials said.
The CBI received a lawsuit during its ongoing investigation into the INX media case where Karti was already under investigation for obtaining the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) from the INX media, they said.After processing the transaction, the CBI received payments amounting to Rs 50 lakh which were allegedly illegally satisfied with the issuance of a visa for Chinese workers who were supposed to work at the center, officials said.
