Ivory Coast economist Jean-Claude Brou, president of a West African political party, has been appointed by Ivorian President AlassaneOuattara as head of the regional bank, a source close to the case said.Brou has served as president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) commission since 2018.
The source said other bank members were expected to formally confirm his appointment to replace Ivory Coast’s TiemokoKone as governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), representing eight regional countries using CFA francs.Kone was elected Ivory Coast vice-president in April, leaving Ouattara with the power to appoint a successor, a regional source said.
