Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced on Friday that he will entrust the task of forming a new government to former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after consulting with the leaders of all political parties that were elected to parliament in the Nov. 1 election. political impasse in the country. “After consultations, the Office of the President CEO Eyal Shviki called Benjamin Netanyahu MK’s Chief of Staff Tzachi Braverman and asked him to invite Benjamin Netanyahu MK to take over the role of government formation from the President on Sunday (November 13, 2022). ,” it added.

Netanyahu will have to form a government within 28 days from the day the president hands him the mandate. If an extension is required, the President has the statutory authority to grant an extension of up to a further fortnight.

In addition to Netanyahu’s Likud party, he received support from a right-wing bloc including Shas, United Torah Judaism, Religious Zionism, Jewish Power and Noam. The name of interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid was recommended by his party Yesh Atid and the Labor Party. National Unity, Yisrael Beitenu, United Arab List (Ra’am) and Hadash-Ta’al decided not to recommend any name to be charged with responsibility.
