The Indian Embassy in Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv, Tweeted today asking the Indian citizens, especially the students, whose stay in the country is not mandatory, to leave the country temporarily in view of the volatility and uncertainty of the situation.
The Indian embassy said in an advisory that with respect to the situation currently prevailing in Ukraine, all Indian nationals in Ukraine, especially the students whose stay is not required, must give a thought to leaving the country temporarily. The Indian nationals have also been advised to avoid all non-essential travel to or within Ukraine. The move is in view of the present fear of Ukraine being invaded by Russia and a potential breaking out.
The Indian Embassy further went on to urge the Indian nationals to keep it posted on the status of their presence in Ukraine so that they can be contacted by the Embassy in the event of an emergency situation. The Indian Embassy clarified in the advisory that it will continue to function as usual and will provide all the services required by the Indian nationals who are currently in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Embassy in Kyiv has been closed and the entire diplomatic staff have been relocated to a temporary office in Lviv, a city in the western part of the country. The US too has closed its Embassy and is temporarily relocating its remaining diplomatic personnel to Lviv. At the same time, many international airlines have either cancelled or diverted flights to and from the nation due to the prevailing fear of the Russian invasion of the country.
The tense situation between Russia and Ukraine has only grown intense in the past few weeks. The American and European intelligence agencies recently claimed that the Russian mercenaries with close ties with Moscow have increased their presence in the country in the last few weeks. The US and the European nations have wanted that Russia may create a pretext to attack the country. The US and NATO have reaffirmed their pledge to defend every inch of NATO territory.
