India has successfully balanced the competing interests of all members G-20 in Face of Global Chaos

G20 is a platform to promote global cooperation for economic development, not a platform to discuss on security issues.

G20 Foreign Ministers met in New Delhi on March 1-2 under India’s G20 Presidency on the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – ‘One Country, One Family, One Future’, they informed Asiaté Lite International, saying that India has successfully balanced the competing interests of all members and promoted the idea of solving global problems through dialogue, cooperation and mutual trust.

Ukraine-Russia war issue

Despite differences over the war between Russia and Ukraine, G20 foreign ministers discussed current global challenges and showed agreement in finding solutions. Ukraine-Russia war currently at the center of global discourse, and with the divergent stances the US and its European allies have predictably taken towards Russia and its supposed and perceived ally China, anti-Russian voices have been raised.

Due to the different views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the stubborn positions of Russia and China, the meeting of the G-20 foreign ministers was unable to issue a joint statement, as both countries refused to sign it on the mention of Russian aggression against Ukraine. other western countries wanted.

The lack of agreement on the different perceptions, claims and counter-claims of Russia and China and the Western alliance on the Ukraine-Russia war has been tolerated in almost all global forums. However, the refusal of the Russian and Chinese counterparts to sign the language of last year’s joint communique in Bali could only be interpreted as an effort to defend their perception and national position, rather than an obstacle to the G-20 chairman.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about India’s civilizational ethos

Further, according to Asian Lite International, despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to “rise above (their) differences,” there was a sharp exchange of words between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and a number of foreign ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged His Excellency to draw inspiration from India’s civilizational ethos of focusing not on what divides us but on what unites us all, emphasizing that the meeting was held in the land of Gandhi and Buddha. Later it was this spirit of meeting that was reflected in the discussions on all other issues.

India has taken the lead of the G20 at a time when the world is facing multifaceted challenges, from insufficient progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss, to economic slowdown, debt distress, uneven recovery from the pandemic, growth . poverty and inequality, food and energy insecurity, and global supply chain disruptions all exacerbate geopolitical tensions and conflicts. The meeting takes on significance as the G20 negotiations and macro-political cooperation provide a valuable opportunity to bring new perspectives and create long-term solutions to today’s global challenges.

The elimination of hunger and malnutrition worldwide was considered urgent and described as the need of the hour. According to Asian Lite International, food security can be achieved by promoting the availability, accessibility, affordability, sustainability, equity and transparent flow of food and agricultural products, including fertilizers, in all parts of the world.

India could achieve anything:

OD also outlined a strategy for global energy security. In this regard, he stated that “uninterrupted, sustainable and resilient supply chains are important to ensure affordable, reliable and sustainable energy access for all. India could achieve anything the G20 can in a challenging global environment, especially when world powers are irreconcilably divided. Although the G-20 chairman was unable to obtain a signed G-20 joint statement due to differences between Russia and China over the language of the Bali Communiqué, Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, insisted that if a majority of members reaffirmed their commitment to the Bali Declaration, several members who refused to sign it didn’t matter much, she further noted.

However, India would use its diplomatic efforts to find common ground and if possible convince the world powers to end the Russo-Ukraine war as the suffering caused by the war affects the entire world, especially the Global South. However, the G-20 is not an appropriate platform for this, so efforts should be made in other forums and through other mechanisms, Asian Lite International said.
