In Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, man thrashed brutally for eloping with girl

New Delhi: In West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, a man was allegedly thrashed by the family members of the woman he eloped with. The victim’s family also alleged that his private parts were cut, police said on Friday.

According to the police, the Rajouri Garden Police Station received a call on Thursday from Safdarjung Hospital that a man named Raman (22) was brought to the hospital in an injured condition.

A senior police officer said that during the enquiry it was found that Raman had eloped with a woman, and the woman’s family was against this relationship. The duo allegedly married outside Delhi and returned on Wednesday.

The woman’s family took the couple to Sagarpur forcefully and assaulted Raman there, they alleged. A case has been registered under the sections of attempt to murder and abduction, and further investigation is being carried out, police said. Police added that the woman’s family members have been involved in many criminal cases previously also.

Two women from the family have been arrested and efforts are on to nab the remaining accused. Meanwhile, Raman’s family has alleged that Raman was handed over to the woman’s kin by police. However, police has refuted the allegations, while an Assistant Sub-Inspector and Head Constable have been suspended for the negligence of their duty.
