Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, today released the IIT Madras Strategic Plan 2021-27

The Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, today released the IIT Madras Strategic Plan 2021-27, which outlined an ambitious growth phase for the institute and Mphasis Center of Excellence for Quantum Sciences and Kotak-IIT (M) Save Energy Mission. He also launched the ‘Kotak IITM Save Energy’ mission, which was established with the support of Kotak’s CSR funding to help SMEs reduce energy consumption and thanked the Mphasis team for supporting the growth of the Center for Quantum Information, Communication and Computing (CQuICC) . He also awarded diploma certificates to selected students of the Bachelor of Data Science program.

The minister also inaugurated a custom GDI engine developed by IIT Madras and supported by TVS Motor Company and a low-cost vegetable cart incubated at IIT (M). The event was attended by Director of IIT Madras, Prof. In Kamakoti, Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Prof. And Ramesh, Prof. Abhijit Deshpande and students of IIT Madras.

The minister visited the 5G test facility for demonstration, the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre, the IIT Madras-based start-up Agnikul Cosmos rocket factory, the Health Technology Innovation Center and the IIT Madras Incubation Cell, besides other research facilities such as the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Center and the 1st 3D printed house on campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pradhan congratulated everyone for inaugurating and launching these initiatives towards academic excellence and nation building. He said that IITs are not just educational institutions, they are temples that create scientific mood and shape the future of humanity. He further said that our society has high expectations from IITs. Our IITians must be the torchbearers of growth and development.

He said the day is not far when the whole world will come to IIT Madras to benefit from the Brain Research Centre. Ideas like 3D printing technology can revolutionize the construction industry, help solve the problems of displacement and give the poor a dignified life.

Shri Pradhan said that India has a culture of giving back to society and India innovates for the betterment of society. Due to the technical prowess of IIT Madras, India will roll out its own 5G by the end of 2023. He further said that the talent pool at IIT gives me a lot of confidence. Our students need to re-ignite their inner powers, re-ignite their ‘Chetna’. They must think big, drive social change and become job providers rather than job seekers, he added.

The Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has appealed to all of us to adopt ‘Panch Pran’ to make India a developed country by 2047. Institutes like IIT Madras are playing a major role in making India a 5 trillion economy and fulfilling Viksit’s vision Bharat.

The next 25 years are very important for all of us. In entering the Amrit kaal, we leapfrogged the country that colonized us. India is developing at an unprecedented pace. A rapidly growing India will have huge domestic demands that our IITs have to meet, he added. The minister urged IIT Madras to commit to celebrate students’ milestone day in entrepreneurship, file patents for public welfare and make life easier for the poorest.
