Tragedy Strikes Hyderabad: Seven Lives Lost in Chemical Godown Fire; Brave Rescue Efforts Underway

In a devastating incident that unfolded on Monday in Telangana’s Hyderabad, at least seven lives were tragically cut short, and three individuals sustained injuries as a massive fire engulfed a chemical godown on the first floor of a four-storey building in the Bazarghat area of Nampally.
The fire erupted at approximately 9:30 am, originating from sparks during car repair on the stilt floor, where chemical drums were stored. According to DCP Venkateshwar Rao of Hyderabad’s Central Zone, the chemical involved was highly inflammable and used in fibre-plastic manufacturing. The blaze quickly spread, claiming six lives and injuring three others as it engulfed multiple floors.
Swift response from the fire brigade helped bring the flames under control, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was alerted, dispatching two teams for rescue operations. Within an hour, the fire was contained, and 21 individuals trapped in the building were rescued and rushed to Osmania General Hospital.
DCP Venkateshwar Rao provided insights into the tragic sequence of events, stating, “The repair work of a car was going on in the godown on the ground floor. The sparks spread to the chemical barrel kept in the godown and caused the fire.” The precise cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be officially determined.
In a separate incident earlier in the day, a fire erupted at an electronics showroom in Shalibanda, Hyderabad. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and six fire engines with 30 firefighting personnel successfully extinguished the flames.
As Hyderabad grapples with these unfortunate incidents, the community mourns the loss of lives and awaits further updates on the investigations. The heroic efforts of the fire brigade and NDRF teams underscore the importance of rapid response and coordinated rescue operations in mitigating such tragic events.
