A military helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh was reported in a village in Upper Siang district

A military helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The accident was reported in a village in Upper Siang district. “We have started search and rescue operations and sent teams to the crash site. No further details about the number of passengers and their condition (are) available yet,” said Shasvat Saurabh, deputy commissioner, Upper Siang district.

While the rescue teams rushed, the scene of the accident is said to be far away. “The crash site is very far away. The nearest village to the crash site is about 140 km from Yingkiong District Headquarters. And it takes several hours to get to the crash site. We have sent a team to the site.” More details will be known once they reach the spot,” said Jummar Basar, Superintendent of Police, Upper Siang.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju released a video from the scene of the accident. “I have received very disturbing news about the crash of an advanced light helicopter of the Indian Army in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. My deepest prayers,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, an Indian Army pilot was killed and another injured when a helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang, one of India’s last points before China. More than 40 people – including former chief minister Dorjee Khandu – have lost their lives in six helicopter crashes in the northeastern state since 2010. Friday’s accident comes days after seven people on board a helicopter operated by a private agency died after the chopper crashed near Kedarnath Dham. Among the seven were pilgrims and a pilot.
