Two days after a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi ordered an investigation into the Gyanvapi mosque to continue amid complaints about video inside the complex, tight security appeared as officials began court-ordered work at 8am on Saturday. The mosque is located near the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple. “There is a strong system in place to ensure that people do not face obstacles, darshan is going well and everything is going well,” said RS Gautam, deputy commissioner of police, Kashi Zone.
About 36 people, including attorney general Ajay Kumar Mishra, attorney general Vishal Singh and assistant commissioner of counsel Advocate AjaiPratap Singh, the applicants, their lawyers and other parties to the case were found on Saturday morning. Everyone outside the survey team and those present at the Gyanvapi center during the study left without holding their cellphones.Strong police deployed about 1 km from the Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi Complex to conduct research at the Gyanvapi Complex.
On Thursday, the court refused to release the investigating officer after a mosque management committee accused him of bias. Mishra was suspended from completing work given to him by a court last week during a slogan for both sides. However, the court – in its latest order – said two more people had been appointed to do the job – attorney general Vishal Singh and assistant commissioner of Advocate AjaiPratap Singh.
The court ordered a search in April after five women applied for permission to perform daily worship at the ShringarGauri temple, west of the mosque. On Thursday, a special court ruled that the investigation should be completed by May 17.The Supreme Court on Friday refused to suspend the project for now. “We have not seen the papers. We do not even know what the problem is. I don’t know anything … how to transfer the order. I will read and issue orders … let me see, ”said India’s Chief Justice, NV Ramana.
