Govt. of India aimed to increase the Digital Literacy in the Country

Digital Literacy refers to a person’s ability to access, evaluate, and communicate clearly through information by typing and other media in digital forums. It is tested on human language system, structure, typing skills and the ability to produce text, images, sound and designs using technology. NITI Aayog report entitled “New India @ 75” Divide by 2022-23. In this regard, it is said that skills development and the creation of talented talent is an important task to ensure that India’s growing digital economy is provided by the skilled and skilled workers needed by Industry. Continuing to facilitate digital adoption, the Department has focused on educating citizens digitally since 2014, across the country, especially in rural areas.

The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has taken the following steps in close the digital divide from the year 2014 to 2016, two Schemes entitled “National Digital Literacy Mission” (NDLM) and “Digital Saksharta Abhiyan” (DISHA) were launched by Government with the aim of training 52.50 people in digital literacy across the country. Under these two programs, a total of 53.67 lakh beneficiaries were confirmed.

PMGDISHA Program

In 2017, a program entitled “Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA)” The PMGDISHA program is part of the Digital India program aimed at transforming India into a society with digital empowered information, approved by the Union Cabinet to introduce digital information literacy in rural India by including 6 crore rural homes (one person per household). To date, a total of 5.78 crore people have been registered and 4.90 crore have been trained, of which about 3.62 crore have been accredited under this program. The information was provided to the Minister of State for Electrical Technology and Information, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar in response to a written reply to a question from Rajya Sabha.
