Delhi Fire Chief Denies Reports on Cash Found at Judge Residence

Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg has denied media reports claiming he stated that no cash was found during a fire at the residence of Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma.

Garg clarified that he never made such a statement and had already informed media outlets misquoting him. A fire department report confirmed that the blaze affected a storeroom with domestic and stationery items, with no casualties reported.

The controversy arose after some reports suggested a large sum of cash was found at the judge’s residence during the fire. The Supreme Court Collegium has launched an inquiry into the incident but clarified that Justice Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court is unrelated to the alleged cash discovery. The court dismissed rumors linking the transfer to the ongoing investigation
