Covid-19 tracker: India registers 1,07,474 fresh cases and 865 more deaths

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website reports total death due to Covid-19 reached 5,02,874

In India, 1,07,474 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported across the country. The current addition took the Covid-19 total tally to 4,22,72,014 according to Union health ministry data.

For the first time in around a month’s time, the daily cases have dropped below one lakh.

Meanwhile, the updated data posted on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website at 8 am revealed that 865 more fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours. The current death figures pushed the total death toll to 5,02,874.

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the country has declined and has come down to 11,08,938, which comprises 2.62 per cent of the total infections. The ministry data says that the national Covid-19 recovery rate has significantly improved and has reached 96.19 per cent. A reduction of 1,16,073 cases has been registered in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The ministry data informs that the daily positivity rate has been recorded at 7.25 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 9.18 per cent. The number of people who have recovered from the disease and have been discharged also rose to 4,06,60,202, which is a rise of 1,99,054 cases. At the same time, the death rate looks at 1.19 per cent.

With 14,70,053 doses administered in the country, in the last 24 hours, the total doses administered so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive have reached 1,69,63,80,755 crore.

Previously, India’s first covid case was reported on the 27th of January 2020, in Kerala. With the country witnessing multiple new cases over the period of just two months, a lockdown was imposed on the 25th of March 2020. From there on, India’s Covid case tally had crossed the 20 lakh mark on the 7th of August 2020; the 30 lakh mark on 23rd August 23 2020; the 40 lakh mark on 5th September 2020 and the 50 lakh mark on 15th September 2020. The covid cases kept rising up and crossed the one crore mark on 18th December 2020.

The country was beginning to slowly and steadily come out of the grim situation it witnessed in the past year, as the daily count of new covid cases had dropped significantly, when it was hit by the second wave in around April 2021. An even rapid rise in Covid cases was registered in the second wave throughout the country and India crossed, within a few months, the milestone of two crore covid cases on the 4th of May 2021 and three crore on 23rd June 22021.

Of the 895 new fatalities, 515 death cases have been reported from Kerala and 66 from Maharashtra.

Till now, a total of 5,02,874 deaths have been reported in the country, which includes 1,43,074 deaths in Maharashtra, 58,255 in Kerala, 39,347 death in Karnataka, 37,759 in Tamil Nadu, 25,983 fatalities in Delhi, 23,318 in Uttar Pradesh and 20,823 deaths have been reported in West Bengal.

The health ministry has stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths reported in Covid-19 cases, have happened due to comorbidities in the infected people.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website further added that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation and the government figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Meanwhile, 11,56,363 is the total number of Covid-19 tests done across the country, in the last twenty four hours.
