The influential conservative U.S. political network led by billionaire Charles Koch has officially endorsed Nikki Haley for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. This endorsement gives a significant boost to Haley’s candidacy, especially as she faces competition from other Republicans seeking to challenge frontrunner Donald Trump.
The Koch network, represented by Americans for Prosperity Action, is known for advocating tax cuts and reduced government regulation. One of its primary objectives is to find a candidate who can defeat Trump in the Republican primaries, believing that Trump would not be the strongest contender against President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election.
In a statement, Americans for Prosperity Action expressed their support for Nikki Haley, stating, “We would support a candidate capable of turning the page on Washington’s toxic culture – and a candidate who can win. And last night, we concluded that analysis. That candidate is Nikki Haley.”
The group highlighted internal polling that, according to them, indicates Haley’s strong position to beat Trump in the Republican primary. Additionally, they claim that Haley consistently emerges as the strongest candidate to face Biden in a general election, based on their polling.
While public opinion polls currently place Haley in a competitive position with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the second spot behind Trump, the Koch network’s endorsement could provide her with increased financial and grassroots support. The Koch super-PAC has reportedly raised over $70 million for political races.
The Koch group emphasized that Haley, at the top of the ticket, could attract independent and moderate voters, which they believe Trump might struggle to win. They pledged to offer Haley the full support of their grassroots network and resources in her presidential bid.
