CBI filed a chargesheet against Lalu Prasad in the land-for-job scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a chargesheet against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, their daughter Mise Bharti and 13 others in the land-for-job scam. According to the CBI, the charge sheet was filed at the CBI court at Rouse Avenue here.

“During investigation, it was found that the accused in conspiracy with the then GM Central Railways and CPO, Central Railways engaged persons as substitutes in lieu of land either on their behalf or on behalf of their close relatives. This land was acquired at prices lower than the prevailing circular rate and much lower than the market rate. It was also reported that the candidates used fake TK and submitted fake attested documents to the Railway Ministry,” the CBI said in a press release.

Further investigations are ongoing, the investigating agency added. The alleged scam took place when Yadav was railway minister from 2004 to 2009. Apart from the RJD chief, the record sheet also includes the name of the then railways general manager. they were appointed as deputation on Group D posts in various zones of railways in exchange of land by unknown civil servants of Indian Railways and later regularized.

It was further alleged that the unknown civil servants of the Indian Railways did not follow the instructions/guidelines etc. issued by the Department during the relevant period for appointment of alternates to Group D posts in the Railways. The FIR further states that investigation has revealed that some individuals, though domiciled in Patna, Bihar, were appointed as substitutes in Group D during the period 2004-2009 in various zones of the railway at Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Hajipur and in of which the individuals themselves or their family members transferred their lands in the name of family members of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then Minister of Railways, Government of India and M/s AK Infosystems Private Limited.

“Of the seven land transfer cases, it was found that three sale deeds were executed in favor of Rabri Devi, wife of Lalu Yadav, one sale deed was executed in the name of Misha Bharti, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, one sale deed was executed in 2014 in favor of a company M/s AK Infosystems Private Limited in which Rabri Devi later became the major shareholder and currently she is one of the directors of the Company. Two gift deeds have been executed in favor of Hema Yadav, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav,” it reads.

The prima facie investigation has indicated that Lalu Prasad Yadav as Minister of Railways, Government of India as a public servant by misusing his official position has obtained pecuniary advantage in the form of lands on behalf of his family members in the matter of appointment of alternates in the year Group D post in various zones of the Railway, states the FIR.
