In a resolute stance, American National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has voiced the United States’ profound concern regarding Canada‘s allegations of potential links between Indian government agents and the killing of a Sikh terrorist on Canadian soil. Sullivan affirmed the United States’ unwavering support for the investigation and its unwavering commitment to seeing the perpetrators brought to justice.
Speaking at a White House press briefing, Sullivan emphasized that there is “no wedge” between the United States and Canada, two nations bound by close ties and shared values. He pledged that the United States would continue to publicly stand by its position on the matter as the investigation unfolds.
Sullivan revealed that the United States had also been in contact with the Indian government, underlining the seriousness with which they view these allegations.
Addressing the issue, Sullivan, a key architect of the rejuvenated India-US strategic partnership under President Joe Biden, stated, “As soon as we heard from the Canadian PM publicly about the allegations, we went out publicly ourselves and expressed our deep concern about them, our support for law enforcement progress to get to the bottom of what exactly happened and ensure perpetrators are held accountable.”
While respecting the confidentiality of diplomatic conversations, Sullivan assured that the United States maintained constant contact with its Canadian counterparts, closely consulting with them on the matter. He reiterated the United States’ support for Canada’s diligent efforts in conducting the investigation.
Sullivan firmly rejected the notion of a divide between the United States and Canada, emphasizing that their concerns about the allegations are deeply rooted. He underscored their shared goal of seeing the investigation through to its conclusion and ensuring accountability for those responsible. This unwavering commitment to justice, Sullivan affirmed, has been the United States’ position since the allegations came to light and will remain steadfast until the issue is resolved.
As the investigations progress, the international community watches closely as the United States and Canada stand shoulder to shoulder in pursuit of truth and justice.
