Bobby Deol Discusses His Role in “Animal” and Film’s Reception

Bobby Deol, who plays the antagonist Abrar Haque in the crime drama film “Animal,” shared insights into his character and the film’s reception. Deol described his character as “obsessed” with revenge and highlighted that, as an actor, he approached the role without judgment, fully surrendering to the thought process of his barbaric character.

The Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed film, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, explores a violent world against the backdrop of a troubled father-son relationship. Deol emphasized that every human has both good and evil within, and his character’s actions are shaped by traumatic experiences.

Addressing criticism of the film’s violent and volatile protagonist, Deol acknowledged the polarizing reactions but stated that filmmakers create stories for entertainment, and it’s impossible to make a universally accepted film.

While there was considerable hype around Deol’s character, he expressed gratitude for the love and appreciation received despite limited screen time. He mentioned the potential for a spin-off on his “Animal” character based on the audience’s positive response.

Deol discussed the physical challenges of bulking up for the role and highlighted the joy of playing a character like Abrar. He expressed excitement about finding acceptance for his portrayal of negative characters in projects like “Aashram,” “Love Hostel,” and now “Animal.”

The actor shared that his family members, including brother Sunny Deol and father Dharmendra, are proud of their collective success in 2023, with films like “Gadar 2” and “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.”

Overall, Bobby Deol reflected on the amazing year for the Deol family and the positive response to his work in “Animal.”
