The biopic drama, directed by Meghna Gulzar, got off to a commendable start at the box office, minting ₹5.50 crores on its opening day in India. Manekshaw, fondly called ‘Sam Bahadur,’ played a pivotal role in the Indo-Pak War of 1971, leading the Indian Army to victory and resulting in the creation of Bangladesh.

Vicky Kaushal, who plays the lead role in the film, expressed his humility in portraying such an iconic figure, saying, “Playing the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw is an immense responsibility and a huge honor.
