Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to tribal icon Birsa Munda in Ranchi on his birth anniversary, celebrated across the country as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. The Prime Minister laid floral tributes at the 25-foot tall statue of Birsa Munda at the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park-cum-Freedom Fighter Museum, located at the Old Central Jail where the tribal leader had breathed his last on June 9, 1900.
In a tweet, PM Modi expressed his respect and best wishes on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, honoring Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s contributions. During his visit to the museum, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Governor CP Radhakrishnan, and Union Minister Arjun Munda.
The museum exhibits the struggles of tribal communities to protect their forests, land rights, and culture, highlighting their bravery and sacrifices. Alongside Birsa Munda, the museum features the contributions of other tribal freedom fighters, showcasing their vital role in India’s fight for independence.
The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park covers 25 acres of land and includes a musical fountain, children’s park, infinity pool, garden, and other recreational facilities.
Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Birsa Munda’s birthplace in Ulihatu village, Khunti district. During this visit, he will launch a ₹24,000-crore project for the development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The Prime Minister will also initiate the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,’ release the 15th installment of ₹18,000 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme, and inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth ₹7,200 crore in the state.
