Cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ may delay onset of monsoon by another 2-3 days
Things are not looking good for India’s rainy season as cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ is likely to delay the onset of the southwest monsoon flow over the Kerala coast for another two to three days, private forecaster Skymet said on Wednesday.
The storm that is delaying the Indian monsoon will become a strong cyclone
Cyclone Biparjoy, which is delaying the start of monsoon rains in India, is set to intensify into a very strong storm in the Arabian Sea as it moves near the country’s western coast, home to major ports and refineries.
The cyclone is now a severe storm and will further intensify and move northward during the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said in an update. The agency signaled that the system will critically affect the arrival of monsoon rains over Kerala by driving away clouds and moisture.
