Violation of law: SC delays bail on SP leader Azam Khan

The High Court on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in hearing the bail application of Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan in the land grab case, saying it was a violation of justice.A bench comprising Justice L Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai noted that Khan had been granted bail in 86 of the 87 cases, and said he would hear the case on May 11.

The Supreme Court of Allahabad on Thursday withdrew its order on Khan’s bail application in the case of the looting of an enemy of his University program Mohammed Ali Jauhar.The Supreme Court on December 4, 2021 had reversed its decision. However, the state government later filed a petition and sought permission to present new facts through new affidavits, filed on Thursday.A FIR case has been opened against Khan and others for alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds in excess of hundreds of rupees.

Earlier, the high court in February rejected the interim bail granted to Khan for campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh election and asked him to go to the relevant court for immediate dismissal.Khan’s application stated that the State had taken all possible measures to postpone the trial to ensure his detention during the recent Uttar Pradesh Council elections.Khan is currently being held in Sitapur prison on a number of charges, including expropriation, in Rampur.
