In a thrilling conclusion to the T20 series, India’s Arshdeep Singh showcased nerves of steel as he defended nine runs in the final over, securing a six-run victory against Australia. This triumph also led India to clinch the series 4-1.
Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer, had a challenging series until the last over of the final match. After a tough start in the initial games, he was dropped for the fourth match. However, due to Deepak Chahar’s absence, Arshdeep got another chance in the crucial final encounter and made it count by conceding just three runs in the decisive over.
In a post-match interview, Arshdeep stated, “There was nothing going on in my mind, I just wanted to execute my plans. I had nothing to lose.” He credited a discussion with Surya bhai (presumably Suryakumar Yadav) for providing the confidence to execute his plans without fear.
Arshdeep’s strategy involved delivering an excellent bouncer followed by taking the wicket of the Australian skipper, which ultimately sealed the win for India. He expressed his belief in his strengths, mentioning, “The belief was there. I backed my strength and had a gut feel that I must bowl a bouncer first up.”
The 24-year-old pacer also credited the spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel for India’s series victory. Bishnoi was named the Player of the Series for consistently impactful performances, securing nine wickets. Arshdeep acknowledged the spinners’ role in maintaining economical bowling even on batting-friendly pitches.
Despite the high-scoring reputation of Chinnaswamy Stadium, Arshdeep found support for the bowlers and turned from being the most expensive bowler earlier in the night to the last-over hero, securing an impressive win for India.
Arshdeep also praised the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting the freedom given to players to express themselves. Yadav’s leadership style, according to Arshdeep, focused on sticking to the process, facing challenges, and creating opportunities without undue pressure on the players.
