North Fort Myers, Florida: In a dramatic encounter, 84-year-old Boppel narrowly escaped an alligator attack while walking her dog near a pond in her mobile home park. The incident occurred Thursday evening when a 7-foot, 3-inch alligator emerged from the water and charged at her and her Shih Tzu, Queen.
Boppel, sensing danger just moments before, acted quickly. “All of a sudden, I had a premonition,” she recalled from her hospital bed. “It was like, ‘uh-oh.'”
As the alligator lunged, Boppel managed to toss her dog to safety but sustained injuries to her legs and fingers. Her quick thinking didn’t end there she bravely fought off the reptile, punching it in the face until it retreated.
A neighbor, hearing her screams, promptly called emergency services. Wildlife officials arrived, removed the alligator, and Boppel was taken to the hospital, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
Though alligator attacks are rare in Florida, this incident highlights the need for caution in areas where these reptiles are known to reside.
