Amar Kaushik’s horror-comedy sequel, Stree 2, continues to dominate the box office, making waves by surpassing some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters. As per reports from Sacnilk, Stree 2 has now become the second-highest-grossing Hindi film in India, overtaking Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan, which starred Shah Rukh Khan.
After surpassing the Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Stree 2 brought its total domestic box office collection to ₹516.25 crore nett by Saturday. This achievement placed the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-led film in third place. However, by Sunday, early estimates indicated an additional ₹10 crore, pushing Stree 2’s total to ₹527 crore, just ahead of Pathaan’s ₹524.53 crore.
Next Target: Jawan
Despite its massive success, Stree 2 still lags behind Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbuster Jawan, which holds the top spot with a domestic box office collection of ₹582.31 crore nett. To become the highest-grossing Hindi film in India, Stree 2 will need to narrow the gap in the coming weeks.
Box Office Competition
With no major releases challenging its position for the past few weeks, Stree 2 has enjoyed an uninterrupted run. The political thriller Emergency, directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, was originally scheduled for release on September 6, but its certification delay has pushed its release. However, Stree 2 is set to face new competition starting this Friday, September 13, from Hansal Mehta’s investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders, featuring Kareena Kapoor.
About Stree 2
Stree 2, a sequel to Amar Kaushik’s 2018 hit Stree, has expanded Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy cinematic universe. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Tamannaah Bhatia. Released in cinemas on August 14, the film is backed by Maddock Films and written by Niren Bhatt.
As Stree 2 continues its march towards the top, all eyes are on whether it can outpace Jawan and claim the crown as the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
