In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a devastating fire ravaged a market area in Delhi’s Alipur, claiming the lives of at least eleven individuals. The inferno, which erupted at a paint factory, swiftly spread to engulf two godowns and a de-addiction center, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The charred remains of the victims were discovered amidst the smoldering ruins of the factory in Alipur’s Dayalpur Market, underscoring the magnitude of the tragedy. Among the casualties, four individuals, including a brave police officer, sustain injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, while two others remain unaccounted for, feared to be trapped amidst the debris.
Responding to the distress call at 5:25 pm, the Fire department sprang into action, dispatching six fire engines to the scene of the calamity. With remarkable efficiency, the courageous firefighters battled the raging inferno for four arduous hours, eventually bringing it under control and preventing further devastation.
The ordeal was compounded by a harrowing explosion that reverberated through the factory premises before the fire erupted, raising suspicions of chemical involvement. Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Services, expressed grave concern over the incident, highlighting the challenges posed by the intensity of the blaze and the precarious conditions faced by rescue teams.
“The fire engulfed adjacent structures, including a residential house and a Nasha Mukti Kendra, exacerbating the tragedy. The blast, coupled with the ferocity of the flames, led to the collapse of buildings, trapping eleven laborers who tragically lost their lives,” lamented Garg, as he grappled with the grim aftermath of the catastrophe.
