Ahead of polls, former BJP minister Dara Singh Chauhan joins SP in Akhilesh Yadav’s presence

Lucknow: Days after resigning from the ruling BJP, former Uttar Pradesh minister Dara Singh Chauhan, in the presence of its national president Akhilesh Yadav joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Sunday.

In just a weeks’ time, Dara Singh Chauhan is the third former Uttar Pradesh minister to join Samajwadi Party. Two other ex-ministers to join SP are Swami Prasad Maurya and Dharam Singh Saini.

“In 2017, the BJP government gave a slogan of ‘sabka sath, sabka vikas’. The party got support from everyone but only a few people received the benefits of development,” Chauhan said after joining the Samajwadi Party. The legislator further said that not only the backward class and Dalits are unhappy with the Uttar Pradesh government, but the Brahmins also are not satisfied. He added that attempts are being made to tamper with the constitution.

The wave of resignations started with Swami Prasad Maurya quitting the cabinet. After that, the sitting MLAs Bhagwati Sagar, Vinay Shakya, Roshan Lal Verma, Mukesh Verma, and Brajesh Kumar Prajapati have also joined Samajwadi Party. Apna Dal MLA Chaudhary Amar Singh, Former BSP MLA Neeraj Kushawaha Maurya, former BJP MLC Harpal Saini, former BSP MLA Balram Saini, former BJP MLA Rajendra Pratap Singh, former Minister of State Vidrohi Maurya, former Chief Security Officer Padam Singh and former Congress MLA Bansi Singh Pahadiya joined the party.

Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases, starting from 10th February and ending on 7th March 2022.
