The Taliban regime has already closed girls’ high schools, sparking a strong response from the United Nations. It also ordered that women who wanted to leave should not be allowed to move unless they were accompanied by a close male relative.
The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has now stopped issuing driving licenses for women and other provinces in a closed country. Before the Taliban took over Afghanistan, women were seen driving to other major cities, including Kabul but now the state has set this limit. The human rights situation in Afghanistan has worsened since the Taliban regained power last year. From the banning of girls in primary schools to refusing to allow women to travel alone, there have been reports that women’s rights have been taken away by the new government.

Here is a look at some of the restrictions that the Taliban have placed on women since the conquest of Afghanistan.On March 23, the Taliban regime closed girls’ high schools across the country, a few hours after they reopened for the first time since taking office. In 2021, just a month after taking office, the Taliban had allowed more girls’ schools in the 6th class to reopen. The move has sparked a strong response from the United Nations.
The UN Security Council stated: “Members of the Security Council have reaffirmed the right to education of all Afghan people, including girls, and called on the Taliban to respect the right to education and to live up to their obligations to reopen schools for all female students without delay.” MoE said the Islamic Emirate is close to a solution to reopen the girls’ school.
Less than a month after taking office, Taliban officials are preventing women from working effectively in government offices, banks, media companies, and other places of employment. Waheedullah Hashimi, a Taliban official, said the state would fully implement sharia law, adding that women should not work with men.
 In December last year, the Taliban ruled that women who wanted to travel for anything but short distances should not be provided with transportation unless they were accompanied by a close male relative. Also, the government has asked car owners to ride only women wearing hijabs.
