LK Advani Awarded Bharat Ratna: A Tribute to BJP’s Architect

Lal Krishna Advani, the veteran leader whose Rath Yatra in the early 1990s propelled the BJP onto the national stage with its fervent call for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has been honored with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in announcing the prestigious accolade, hailed Advani’s monumental role in shaping India’s development, describing him as one of the most respected statesmen of the nation. Modi emphasized Advani’s multifaceted contributions, spanning from grassroots activism to serving as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting.

Advani’s journey in public life began in the aftermath of Partition, when he migrated from Karachi to Bombay and joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age. His association with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the BJP, laid the foundation for his political career, marked by unwavering dedication to the principles of transparency, integrity, and national unity.

As a founding member of the BJP, Advani played a pivotal role in shaping its ideology and organizational structure. His leadership during the Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 galvanized popular support for the BJP’s cause, catapulting the party to prominence and significantly altering the landscape of Indian politics.

Throughout his illustrious career, Advani held key ministerial positions and served as the party president on multiple occasions. His contributions were instrumental in the BJP’s ascendance from a minor player to the second-largest party in the parliament.

Politicians across party lines lauded the decision to confer the Bharat Ratna on Advani, acknowledging his pivotal role in shaping contemporary Indian politics. While BJP leaders extended heartfelt congratulations, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit highlighted Advani’s significant influence on the BJP’s trajectory, despite expressing reservations about the timing of the honor. Meanwhile, BRS MLC K Kavitha remarked that Advani’s recognition signaled the fulfillment of the BJP’s agenda.

Advani’s legacy as a stalwart of Indian politics and the architect of the BJP’s rise to prominence is etched indelibly in the annals of history. His tireless efforts towards nation-building and unwavering commitment to his principles continue to inspire generations of leaders and citizens alike, making him a deserving recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
