It may be recalled that India joined the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, which was established at the “One Planet Conference” in Paris in January 2021, aimed at promoting an international agreement to protect at least 30% of the world’s land and land. at sea in 2030.Dr Jitendra Singh assured the Ministers, Delegates and Representatives of more than 130 countries participating in the 5-day conference that India will once again provide solutions based on science and innovation for the implementation of the SDG-Goal 14 in line with environmental solutions. Goal 14 calls for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine, Oceans and Marine Resources.

Focusing on the theme of the conference “Enhancing Maritime Action based on Science and Innovation to Implement Goal 14: Stock Exchange, Partnership and Solutions”, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that India will take all possible steps to achieve goal 14 of sustainable development. , which discusses some of the challenges facing underwater life. He also informed that the Government led by Prime Minister Modi has taken a number of steps, plans and policy interventions by the Minister and various Departments to protect marine and coastal ecosystems, mangroves and coral reefs.

According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, India has committed itself to a “Clean Coastal Campaign” and has announced that India will soon achieve a complete ban on the use of single plastic. One of the best examples is the elimination of plastic / polyethylene bags and the promotion of alternatives such as the use of cotton / jute fabric bags, he said. Research on the collection of Marine Litter data and information data from various matrices namely, coastal waters, sediments, biota and beaches as part of the formulation of the National Policy has already begun, the Minister added.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said India had unveiled its vision for the next decade, calculating ten key indicators of India’s growth by 2030. India’s policy”. The Deep Ocean Mission is being implemented by the Department of Earth Sciences on a number of themes, including the development of Ocean Climate Change Advisory Services to address climate resilience, exploration and conservation of coastal biodiversity, the development of marine technology resources and capacity building.

Dr. Jitendra Singh told member states that India has well established partnerships with UN Agencies and Research Institutions to prevent the path and data gap in the SDGs and to work for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, 2021-2030, to clean up , a healthy, productive, predictable, safe and easily accessible ocean.

The Minister also pointed out that India has partnered with many countries in the areas of Integrated Marine Management and a framework for maritime development programs for sustainable development and conservation. It has proposed establishing the Sustainable Coastal and Ocean Research Institute (SCORI) to meet the needs and aspirations of Pacific Island (PIC) countries, he said. Dr. Jitendra Singh thanked Portugal and Kenya, the co-workers of the summit and thanked the United Nations President for the much-needed initiative in promoting timely support for the Sustainable Development Goals soon after the Covid-19 epidemic.
