Sports Focus: England’s 2019 ICC World Cup Winning skipper Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from international cricket

Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan CBE is an Irish-born cricketer who is currently the captain of the England cricket team in limited overs cricket matches with London Spirit in The Hundred. Under his captaincy, England won the 2019 ICC World Cup, the first time. Now Eoin Morgan will announce his retirement from international cricket. According to Sky Sports, Morgan wanted to lead England during the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. But the difficulty of the 35-year-old striking form and resilience over the past 18 months has made a difference in his heart. He led the team during a one-day series in the Netherlands this month but was sent off for duck in two high-scoring games and missed the final game due to hard work.

Jos Buttler, his deputy in white cricket, replaced his captain in times of need. A high-profile series against India featuring three T20Is and three ODIs from July 7 onwards could be Buttler’s first job as a fully fledged white footballer.

Morgan replaced Alastair Cook as the captain of white football ahead of the 2015 World Cup in Australia in 2015. Morgan elevated his team to a very high level after embarrassing exit from the tournament and transformed English white cricket by promoting a fearless, courageous type of cricket. This has seen the ODI and T20I teams rise to the top of the world rankings, and winning the 2019 World Cup was a turning point.

Morgan made his ODI debut in Ireland. Three years later, he changed his allegiance to England and will retire at a total of 248 ODIs under his belt, where he has hit 7,701 runs in 14 years. He also played 115 T20Is, adding 2,458 runs in 14 and half formats.

Morgan played his first ODI match in Ireland in 2006 before moving to England in 2009 and will stop playing 248 ODIs, hitting 7,701 runs for 14 years, and T20Is for 115, add another 2,458 runs and 14 runs. Morgan also led two hundred in 16 Tests in England between 2010 and 2012.
