The West is showing a new decline between Mali and its international partners

Mali’s interim government on Monday said military officials “supporting the West” had tried to overthrow the government last week, without providing details or evidence. The alleged pusch happened on the night between May 11 and May 12, a court ruling that took place in August 2020. The statement said in a statement.

Allegations against the West show a new rift between Mali and its old overseas allies that for ten years helped West Africa fight Islamist militants but withdrew amid political tensions. Instead, Russian troops arrived to help the Malian army and witnesses said last month white soldiers were involved in a massacre of Malians.

Security breaches, which include inspections at border crossings and checkpoints in the capital Bamako, have been put in place to identify those involved, the statement said. The investigation is open and the “detainees” will face justice, he added.Disagreements between the Malian state and Western nations are linked to their failure to hold the February elections and the immediate restoration of democracy, as well as their cooperation with Russian troops.
