The Prime Minister then said, “… this will focus on restoring the production of land and the ecosystem services of 26 million hectares of highly degraded and endangered land, with emphasis on deforestation, forests and other desertification through sustainable regeneration. ”

In another important development during India’s presidency, G-20 leaders, recognizing the importance of combating land degradation and creating new carbon routes, set a goal of jointly planting 1 trillion trees, urging other countries to join the G20 to achieve this goal. of the world. in 2030.

Also, for the first time, the Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on effective policy and drought response measures under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was established by resolution 23 / COP.14. The draft report has been prepared and will be discussed during the current COP15 session.

The 15th session of the United Nations (COP15) Conference on the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 9 to 20 May 2022, will bring together leaders from government, private companies, the public. the public and other key stakeholders from around the world to advance progress in future sustainable global governance and will explore links between the world and other key issues of sustainability.

These issues will be discussed during the summit of 9-10 May 2022, which includes the Summit of Heads of State, high-level tables and discussion sessions, as well as many other special and private events. Drought, land reform, and related resources such as land rights, gender equality and youth empowerment are among the priorities of the Conference agenda. Through its resolutions adopted by 197 UNCCD Parties, COP15 is expected to strengthen sustainable land reform and drought resistance solutions, with a strong focus on ensuring future land use.
