DST needs to invest in all sectors that contribute to new and emerging challenges such as climate change:  Remarks by Secretary-DST

The 51st anniversary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) sets the stage for the launch of the Department’s mission and paves the way, said DST Secretary Dr S Chandrasekhar at the 52nd anniversary of the Foundation Day today.

“DST was established to create a scientific platform to fund S&T research in the country. Later, translation of the study was also included in the mandate. The Department has successfully coordinated S&T nationwide by supporting R&D and translation into S&T. Succeeded in granting S&T to overcome this epidemic. However, new challenges are emerging, the Department must address them to help the country address these challenges” explained the DST Secretary.

DST needed to invest in sectors

Citing the challenge of global climate change as an example, Dr Chandrasekhar said DST needed to invest in sectors that contribute to global warming. “We need to be more rational, more aware of the challenges and develop the best technology possible.
