Mizoram Is A truly Modern Region Ready to Achieve Higher Achievements: President Kovind

The second highest literacy rate in the country, Mizoram is a truly modern country on the cusp of greater success, said Indian President Shri Ram NathKovind. He was speaking at the 16th conference of Mizoram University in Aizawl today (May 5, 2022).

The President said Mizoram was blessed with abundant natural resources. A region rich in biodiversity offers many opportunities for research and development. However, it is our responsibility to create the right balance between development and sustainability. The environment in this province and other northeastern provinces needs to be carefully conserved. We need to adopt habits that are beneficial not only for ourselves but also for our environment. He commended the people of Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura for producing small plastic waste as part of a study conducted by NITI Aayog. He said this was a good example of efficiency and productivity. He also noted that despite the traffic jams, active Aizawl people refrain from hitting wood. He said the practice deserved to be appreciated and could be picked up by people from other cities.

Ram NathKovind talk about main goals

The President said that in terms of Goal 4 – of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the Provision of Higher Education, NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index 2020-21 shows that the 60-point Mizoram has done better than the national average of 57. The point made in the analysis was that Goal – 4 points ranked Aizwal as the best player in all the northeastern regions. He called on the people of Aizwal to apprehend and encourage people in other regions of the state to develop their social indicators and participate in the country’s development agenda.

The president said educational institutions were the key to the future. They not only provide students with training and education but also shape them into good citizens. Endless support for teachers in educational institutions and universities that play a prominent role in the lives of students. He was pleased to note that the faculty of Mizoram University is not only qualified but also does a high level of research work. He said talented researchers tend to be outstanding teachers as well. Their assessment education is best integrated with students. Such ability also fosters a spirit of research and innovation.

The President said business development activities and the establishment of “Incubation Technology Centers” at the University of Mizoram to extend support to emerging entrepreneurs to grow their ideas through innovation and innovation is a step in the right direction. He is grateful for the university’s initiatives to promote innovation and turn it into a business. He said this was the key to bringing about change in our society and economy.
