Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

The Sikh faith revolves around the sacred bond of teacher and student, Guru – the ablution of darkness. To the Sikhs, Guru refers to the following ten spiritual instructions, the founding fathers of the Sikh faith. Sri Guru Teh Bahadur Ji is the ninth Sikh Guru. He was best known as ‘Hind di Chaddar’, Jagat Guru. He was born in Amritsar and breathed his last into Delhi. He was the youngest son of Sri Guru Hargobind Ji. His mother was Mata Nanaki Ji. His wife was Mata Gujri Ji. He was the grandson of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and his son was Gobind Rai who became Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

From his youth on, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had a deep meditation environment in which his wife also played an active role. Like the first five Sikh Gurus, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji acquired an uncanny knowledge of Shabad and shared his knowledge through songs. Like Sri Guru Nanak Ji, he went a long way – establishing new communities and caring for existing communities that had never been visited by any Sikh Gurus since the time of Sri Guru Nanak Ji.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was the first grandson of Sikh Martyr, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Sri Guru Teh Bahadur ji was assassinated in support of the Kashmiri Pandits’ religious freedom by order of Aurangzeb. The memorial of his death is commemorated as the Shaheedi Divas annually on the 24th of November. The latter was beheaded in ChandniChowk, Delhi. Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib and GurdwaraRakabGanj in Delhi are associated with his sacred sacrifice. His legacy serves as a great unifying force in the nation.

On the first day of the celebration on April 20, 2022, the Minister of the Interior Shri Amit Shah will take part in a commemorative event. About 400 children will take part in ShabadKirtan on April 20, 2022. He will also present the Multimedia program ‘The Life and Sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’ at Red Fort.
