Japanese PM Fumio Kishida invited to visit Ukraine

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has been invited to visit Ukraine, the government’s top spokesman said on Friday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said “The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, extended an invitation to the Japanese ambassador to Ukraine on Wednesday” to a regular press conference.

Matsuno said, referring to the Group of Seven (G7) nations “Japan stands behind the citizens of Ukraine … and is taking appropriate steps as this year’s G7 chair”.

Next week, Kishida is set to visit G7 member countries including France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, a key diplomatic trip before Japan hosts the annual G7 summit in Hiroshima in May.
