India, US strongly agree on restoring lasting peace in Ukraine

India and the United States “strongly agree” that restoring lasting peace in Ukraine is necessary, the Biden administration said. State Department spokesman Ned Price also said his country is working very closely with its allies and partners, including India, on the conflict in Ukraine and that the international community firmly recognizes the need to hold Russia accountable.

Ned Price said “We very much agree with India that restoring lasting peace in Ukraine is essential. This is the same message that was issued by President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy himself. During the G-20, he spoke to the assembled world leaders and presented his vision for a just peace. This is something we very much welcome,” at his daily press conference on Friday.

He also added “We welcome India’s support for the people of Ukraine. India has provided humanitarian aid and is calling on India to immediately end Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine. We also very much agree with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s statement that today is not a time of war. That, of course, was the comment made at the G-20. We have also heard this comment at the UN ,The United States believes that countries like India, which have a relationship with Russia and Ukraine, may be in a position to help establish dialogue and diplomacy that could one day end this war.

Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said “I say one day, and I put it in a condition, because there is one country that, of course, has not shown a willingness to end this war, to end brutal aggression, and that is, of course, Russia, Even in the context of recent discussions, “we took note of the Kremlin’s statement that the Kremlin is willing to engage in dialogue, but only if the new territorial realities are recognized”.

In response to a question, Price said “the United States is working very closely with all of our allies and partners around the world on Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine. Of course that includes India. The international community firmly recognizes the need to hold Russia accountable for the atrocities it has committed and its forces are committing in Ukraine, the Russian war did not affect Ukraine only”.

Price also said “As important as Ukraine is and this conflict, this war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, is in a way much bigger. It has affected countries around the world in many ways, that’s at the heart of the United States’ global strategic partnership with India, and it’s at the heart of what “we’re trying to do with the quad, with the other bilateral and multilateral work we’re doing with our Indian partners”.
