Indonesian rescue teams were searching for 26 missing people on Saturday after a boat carrying 43 people capsized on the island of Sulawesi, search engines said.A boat leaving Paotere Harbor in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province, on Thursday midnight was reported missing the next day when it did not reach its destination, local media reported.The rescued passengers were taken by boat to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan and Jeneponto in South Sulawesi, South Sulawesi search and rescue officer Djunaidi said on Saturday.
Authorities said the accident was caused by a lack of fuel and bad weather.”We are sure the boat sank in the search area,” said Djunaidi. “We have received information that 17 people have been rescued by towers.”Indonesia’s meteorological agency warned on Thursday of waves up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) in the Makassar area and could pose safety hazards.
