India witnessed a 19% increase in vehicle sales during the 42-day festive season, primarily driven by robust demand for two-wheelers in rural areas, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The festive season, which began in mid-October and concluded on November 25, saw two-wheeler sales surge approximately 21% to 2.9 million units. FADA reported record-breaking sales in various categories, with rural areas significantly contributing to the growth in two-wheeler purchases.
Sales of three-wheelers rose by 41%, and passenger vehicles (PVs) recorded a 10% increase, reaching 547,246 units. Tractors, a key indicator of the rural economy, showed a remarkable recovery, ending the festive period with only a 0.5% decrease after a temporary 8.3% sales dip during Navratri. Despite the positive trends, caution remains due to high PV inventories, with sport utility vehicles (SUVs) being the most-demanded category.
