In a sign of the growing momentum in the India-US relationship, officials from both nations recently engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering interoperability and logistics cooperation.
During the India-US 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue, officials explored various opportunities to enhance interoperability and logistics cooperation between the two countries. The dialogue also covered combined maritime engagements in the Indian Ocean Region and expanded collaboration in the fields of space and cyber security.
The Indian delegation, led by Additional Secretary Vani Rao from the Ministry of External Affairs and Joint Secretary Vishwesh Negi from the Ministry of Defence, held discussions with their American counterparts. The US side was headed by Dr. Ely Ratner, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, and Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs.
The dialogue included conversations on regional security developments and strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific region. It also focused on various aspects of the US-India partnership, including defense and security, emerging technologies, people-to-people ties, clean energy, and supply chain resilience.
Regarding defense cooperation, the officials reviewed the progress made in implementing the Roadmap for US-India Defense Industrial Cooperation. They expressed satisfaction with the advancement of new co-production initiatives and committed to expeditiously concluding negotiations on the Security of Supply Arrangement and Reciprocal Defense Procurement agreements.
The officials reiterated the importance of a strong partnership between the two countries in promoting security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific Region. Ratner reaffirmed the US Department’s commitment to working with India to advance a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
This dialogue signifies the deepening and broadening of the strategic partnership between India and the United States, emphasizing their shared interests and commitment to regional stability and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific.
