In 2021, IIT-Delhi submitted a proposal to the ministry to open campuses in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, after which a 16-member committee headed by IIT Council Standing Committee Chairman K Radhakrishnan was set up to prepare the framework for Indian universities to set up campuses abroad. last week that the committee has submitted its preliminary report showcasing the top IITs to take the lead in the field.

According to the ministry’s reply in Parliament on Monday, IIT-Delhi has already approached the Indian ambassador to the UAE to identify and arrange a meeting with the UAE authorities. “The Department of Education and Knowledge, Abu Dhabi (ADEK) has been identified as the competent authority of the UAE. At the first ADEK-IITD meeting, both parties introduced their organizations and expressed their excitement and enthusiasm to move forward with this project,” the ministry said.

“At the second ADEK-IITD meeting, ADEK invited representatives from the Economic Development Department and the Advanced Technology Research Council to make presentations on Abu Dhabi’s economic vision and research priorities. At ADEK’s request, IIT Delhi presented a model to guide new IITs to older IITs and shared its experience in mentoring IIT Ropar and IIT Jammu,” the ministry added.
