NASA’s renowned Hubble Space Telescope has once again captured a breathtaking image of the universe, this time focusing its lens on the mesmerizing Sombrero galaxy. This galaxy is situated on the southern fringes of the galaxy-rich Virgo cluster and is located approximately 28 million light-years away from Earth.
The space agency took to Instagram to share this awe-inspiring image that showcased the Sombrero galaxy in all its glory. The Hubble Space Telescope captured the galaxy in visible light, while the Spitzer Space Telescope observed it in the infrared spectrum using four different microns: blue, green, orange, and red.
Accompanying the image, NASA’s caption provided fascinating insights into the galaxy, stating, “The Sombrero galaxy is seen here nearly edge-on. The spiral galaxy is 50,000 light-years in diameter, around half the size of our Milky Way galaxy. At the Sombrero galaxy’s center, scientists estimate there is a black hole that is around a billion times more massive than our Sun.”
In this captivating picture, the left and right edges of the Sombrero galaxy are bathed in a striking red hue, while the middle of the rings appears in a mesmerizing yellow-green shade. The galaxy’s center, on the other hand, is adorned in a gentle light blue tone with a brilliant white core. The image also features scattered stars and galaxies, adding to the celestial tapestry.
