INS Arihant conducted a successful launch of a Submarine Ballistic Missile (SLBM) on 14 October 2022. The missile was tested at a predetermined range and hit the target area in the Bay of Bengal with very high accuracy. All operational and technological parameters of the weapon system were verified.
The successful launch of SLBM user training from INS Arihant is significant to demonstrate crew competency and validate the SSBN programme, a key element of India’s nuclear deterrence capability. A robust, survivable and assured retaliatory capability is consistent with India’s “credible minimum deterrence” policy, which underpins its “no first use” commitment.
