Sindhu targets to fill her cabinet with CWG and Asiad titles in 2022

New Delhi: Top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is targeting peak form during the Commonwealth and Asian Games to be held this year, to ensure that she secures the two titles missing from her collection. She reckons that picking up the right events will be crucial in the busy season.

The Common Wealth Games (CWG) is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, commencing on 28th of July and concluding on the 8th of August 2022, while the Asian Games is scheduled in Hangzhou, China from 10th of September to 25th September 2022.

“This year, I would like to win the Commonwealth Games gold, Asian Games title and the All England title, besides the world championships,” Sindhu said ahead of the season-opening India Open Super 500 tournament, beginning on Tuesday.

This year will be another hectic season as there will be the regular Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour events, including the Super 1000s, Super 750s, and Super 500s other than the big-ticket events, to keep the ranking up.

“It will be important to pick and choose the events as there are lots of tournaments,” said Sindhu.

“We have to plan carefully, ranking is also important and it would be important to find my best form at the Asian Games, and the Commonwealth Games (CWG),” Sindhu said. “It is important to be mentally and physically fit for each tournament, we need to give 100 per cent effort all the time, so fitness has to be at good levels both off and on the court.” She added.

Sindhu will begin her campaign at India Open against Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli. Sindhu had won the title in 2017. The Indian will be competing with the likes of two-time champion Saina Nehwal, Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand and Singapore’s Jia Min Yeo for the title.
