Gujarat Titans‘ captain Shubman Gill faced a hefty fine of ₹12 lakh following his team’s slow over rate in their IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings. This marked the first overrate-related offense in the ongoing 17th edition of the tournament.
“Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offenses, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh,” stated an IPL official statement.
Taking charge of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians, Gill clinched victory in his opening match against the Mumbai Indians. However, in their subsequent match against the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans faced defeat.
In the match against the Chennai Super Kings, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra shone with an explosive 46 runs off 20 balls in his debut IPL season. Supported by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 46 runs, Chennai Super Kings posted 206-6. Seam bowlers Mustafizur Rahman, Deepak Chahar, and Tushar Deshpande played pivotal roles in restricting Gujarat Titans to 143-8, resulting in their largest IPL defeat by runs.
Shivam Dube, with his impressive 51 runs off 23 balls, boosted Chennai’s total after a quick start provided by Ravindra and Gaikwad. Notably, this victory marked Chennai Super Kings’ second consecutive win in the IPL 2024 season.
