In a historic episode of “Koffee With Karan,” veteran actor Sharmila Tagore and her son, Saif Ali Khan, took the couch together, marking the first time a mother-son duo appeared on the show. The episode, part of the current eighth season, featured lively and candid moments, with the duo sharing untold stories about Saif’s childhood, his teenage years, and addressing his first marriage with Amrita Singh.
During the conversation, Saif recounted the moment he broke the news of his marriage to Amrita Singh to his mother. He revealed that Sharmila was in Mumbai, and after she had advised him not to get married, he informed her that he had tied the knot the previous day. Sharmila’s heartbroken reaction left a lasting impact on Saif, as he mentioned, “A big tear fell out of her eye, and she started crying. She said, ‘you’ve really hurt me.'”
Sharmila Tagore emphasized the importance of sharing every aspect of life with parents, considering they play a significant role in one’s upbringing. Saif added that when he decided to separate from Amrita, Sharmila was the first person he confided in, and she supported his decision.
However, Sharmila acknowledged the challenges during the “not so harmonious time” following the split. She explained that breakups are difficult, especially after being together for a long time and having children. Sharmila highlighted that it was not a happy time for the family, as they not only lost Amrita but also Saif and Amrita’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Saif, now married to Kareena Kapoor Khan, has two sons with her, Taimur and Jeh. Amrita lives with her two children, and Sharmila resides in Delhi at the Pataudi Palace.
