Leaders of various opposition parties convened a meeting on Thursday to address the recent security breach in Parliament and collectively demanded a serious discussion on the issue in both houses. The meeting, led by the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, took place amid growing concerns about the breach that occurred during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.
Several Congress MPs, including Kharge, have submitted notices for adjournment in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, urging a dedicated discussion on the security lapse. Manickam Tagore, a Congress MP, submitted an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha, while Naseer Hussain, another party MP and whip in the Rajya Sabha, provided a similar notice under Rule 267 to address the issue. The objective is to set aside all other parliamentary business and focus on the critical matter of security.
Hussain, in his adjournment notice, highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that two unauthorized individuals infiltrated the Lok Sabha chamber, causing chaos by shouting slogans and detonating smoke bombs while the House was in session. The coordinated effort involved protestors outside Parliament House, adding to the urgency of addressing the breach and implementing remedial security measures.
The opposition leaders are contemplating meeting President Droupadi Murmu to seek her intervention in the matter, considering its implications for the security of all Members of Parliament. The security breach occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, raising significant concerns about the vulnerabilities in the current security setup.
In response to the breach, the opposition leaders are collectively urging a statement from the Home Minister and proposing a comprehensive discussion on urgent security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The breach involved two individuals, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, who jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, released yellow gas, and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs.
As the opposition leaders unite to address the security lapse, the demand for a thorough investigation and immediate corrective actions is gaining momentum, underlining the need for safeguarding the sanctity of Parliament and the safety of its members.
