Pakistan marked the beginning of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a resounding 81-run triumph against Netherlands at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Despite a shaky start, Pakistan managed to accumulate 286/10 in 49 overs. Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan played pivotal roles, each contributing 68 runs, with Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan also chipping in with 30-plus scores.
Netherlands, in response, made a decent start, with Vikramjit Singh and Bas de Leede leading the charge. Vikramjit scored 52 runs before falling to Shadab, while Bas de Leede was dismissed by Mohammad Nawaz after making 67 runs. Netherlands ultimately succumbed to a total of 205 in 41 overs.
Pakistan’s victory was highlighted by Haris Rauf’s impressive performance as he dismissed Paul van Meekeren for 7 runs, securing the final wicket for Pakistan. Pakistan secured the win by 81 runs.
Logan van Beek provided some entertainment for Netherlands with boundaries against Haris Rauf, but Hasan Ali responded with a couple of boundaries. However, Netherlands’ lower-order batsmen struggled, and Roelof van der Merwe was run out for 4 runs. Mohammad Nawaz took Bas de Leede’s wicket, while Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Saqib Zulfiqar lbw for 10 runs. Bas de Leede continued to shine, hitting boundaries and keeping the scoreboard ticking.
